FAQ to the Training Division
The why’s and how’s of TRAINING Requests
The team has certain requirements set forth by NDMS regarding
training. We have some restrictions that we must work within.
When can we train?
Field training exercises (FTX's) using our cache or equipment will
not be scheduled or approved during our primary on-call months. This
is so we are prepared to deploy immediately during those times.
How can I sign up for an FTX?
If you intend to participate or attend any training program, we
must know between 45 - 60 days prior to tthe event, so we can make
a roster. Our our
A.O. must verify your credentialing is up-to-date. After 21 days prior to the
event no changes t can be made to the roster. To participate in ANY training
or deployment you MUST be credentialed and have a HHS credit
card.
It is your responsibility to make sure all your credentials are up-to-date
with the team A.O. If the A.O. does not have your most current records,
you may not be eligible to participate in FTX activities or other training.
If you are in need of CME’s / CEU’s, CPR, PALS, ACLS,
etc., please let the training section know and we will endevor
to meet your needs. We now have a contract with HMA Hernando Healthcare
for on line CEU’s and CPR / ACLS training. Information will
be coming as soon as HMA ratifies the contract.

participant. If you sign up for training, be there. Finances are
tight and the team looses money with "no shows".
ORIENTATION CLASS
We intend to incorporate this within the quarterly team training
schedule for FY 2008.
NDMS/DMAT CORE TRAINING (In redevelopment by HHS)
In order to be considered deployable by both NDMS and FL-3 DMAT,
each team member must able to show basic competency in the following
areas:
- Personal and team safety
- Aircraft safety
- BoO setup and maintenance (BoO = Base of Operations)
- Communications
- Incident Command (ICS)
- Hazmat Awareness
- Scope of practice (clinicians only)
Training methods include:
- Classroom (Didactic) Training
- On-line
web-based curriculum - both EMI and team on-line sponsored
- Field Training Exercises (FTX's)
- NDMS or FEMA sponsored events
- Conferences and seminars
- Monthly or Bi-Monthly topics specific to various disciplines
associated with deployments. Send to us your requests by E-mail
so we can place them on an agenda / calendar
Training sessions are always conducted in an adult-oriented, learning
environment. These sessions will use a combination of lectures,
A/V presentations (Power Point, DVD, VHS, etc.) Classroom training
is conducted several times a year and done in conjunction with
the web-based resources. It usually precedes a field training exercise
(FTX) that serves to incorporate and reinforce lessons learned.
WEB-BASED TRAINING
Currently HHS is working with the Training work group to develop

NIMS / ICS training is completed (if you have completed
IS-700 in 2005/2006 you DO NOT need to redo that course. Please

The Emergency Management Institute (EMI) offers more than fifty
independent study courses. These are self-paced courses designed
for people who have emergency management responsibilities and the
general public. For most of our courses, you will need to download
and print the materials. Others are interactive courses that you
can take
directly over the internet. All are offered free-of-charge
to those who qualify for enrollment. Each Independent Study Course
includes lessons with practice exercises and a final examination.
Students who score 75 percent or better are issued a certificate
of achievement from EMI.
Course completion times vary from two to fourteen hours, depending
on the course and the student’s background. College credit
can be obtained after successful completion of a course. Click
on the COLLEGE CREDIT item in the menu to the left of this page
for details.
Electronic Medical Record Training (EMR)
Since we had our training exercise in June of 2006, none of us
have looked at or seen the electronic medical records program.
Many of the training officers, including myself, were concerned
as to how to keep our teams up to date and familiar with a system
that we never get to use. The EMR group has made a few on-line
tutorials that will help refresh your memory of what you all learned.
Please take the time to look over these and write any questions
you may have. We will do our best to incorporate some in house
classroom training as well. This training is for both Clinicians
and Non-clinical staff, as you never know what your roll may be,
or how the system may integrate with your discipline.

- EMR CBT (computer based tutorial) - is a complete training
package. The training is divided into four (4) modules; Patient
Triage, Registration, Treatment and Discharge. Please note
that your computer must have an installed sound card and
speakers to use the tutorials.

NDMS Core Curriculum Requirements
NDMS has re-worked the online training requirements in an effort
to make them more team-specific. If you have previously completed
the 2004 & 2005 requirements, which was the DMAT CORE CURRICULUM,
much of your training will be transferred to the new sections.
NDMS will have this still on file, as does the team A.O. If
you have any certificates form the previous UMBC training, please
mail or fax them to Karen
Crabbe, Administrative officer ASAP. We
need to know who has completed what in order to develop a training
calendar to bring everyone up to compliance.
The new on-line training requirements for the NDMS/ DHHS/ DMAT
teams in 2007. Will be coming out with the FEMA
/ EMI training. (If you have any desire to be deployed
on a mission as a DMAT member, you must complete these when they
become available, or NDMS will not roster you.)

- Flight Line air marshalling.
- Investigation of Courses available through Florida State Fire
College.
- Investigation of Courses available through US and Florida State
Forestry service.
- Development of a Quarterly Training schedule with tracts that
are discipline specific.
